“if you aren’t motivated by what you are working on right now, then chances are it won’t be as good as it should be”
I expect that this chapter can help me understand what composes the different organization and companies.
“Unity”. The state of being in full agreement. Some companies separate design, development, copywriting, support and marketing into different departments. It says here that uniting them means better and faster work. It also says here that in a company, hire someone who has multiple talents because he/she can help you throughout the development of your company.
“Alone Time”. In order to get things done, you should not be interrupted by a lot of things. The alone part makes the most work done. When someone or something doesn’t interrupt you, you can get in the zone. The zone is when you get productive the most. During alone time, give everything up. It’s just you and what you’re doing. Focus on the things that are needed to be done. By having an alone time, real progress and development comes to your work.
“Meetings are toxic”. Why? Because it consumes time and effort, instead of doing your real work done, you just waste your time to a meeting. Instead of having a meeting, try to make communication through e-mail, etc. Just have a meeting when a concept is not clear and allot a time to it, when the time is done, the meetings done that’s it. Invite only a few people. Never have a meeting without a clear agenda.
“Seek and celebrate small victories”. The most important thing in software development is motivation. If you aren’t motivated by what you are doing right now, then chances are it won’t be as good as it should be. Try to release simple features in a short period of time because that can lead to victory. When that happens, you can celebrate and motivation keeps on coming. Meaning your headed in the right direction.
What have you learned:
Upon reading this chapter, I’ve learned about the organization, how to manage a company, how to make your company successful, how to be motivated everytime you do your work. Also, alone time can keep you doing your work and can keep you productive everytime because no one is bothering you plus you’ll be focus throughout what you are doing and be able to finish it perfectly and with sense.
